Explore the historical landmarks and vibrant markets of Salalah. Visit the grand mosque, smell frankincense at Haffa Souq, and tour UNESCO sites with a private guide.
Immerse yourself in the rich history, spiritual landmarks, and vibrant local trade of Salalah with our signature half-day heritage city tour. This private guided experience is designed for travelers who want to understand the cultural and historical foundations of Dhofar. Led by a licensed, English-speaking Omani guide, you will travel in a premium air-conditioned vehicle, ensuring maximum comfort throughout the day.
Our journey starts with a morning visit to the majestic Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, an architectural masterpiece in the heart of the city featuring intricate Islamic carvings, massive chandeliers, and hand-woven carpets. From there, we drive past the Al Husn Palace, the official waterfront residence of His Majesty the Sultan, to understand the royal history of the region. We then dive deep into antiquity by visiting the UNESCO World Heritage ruins of Al Baleed Archaeological Park and the neighboring Museum of the Land of Frankincense, where you will explore the historical halls detailing Oman's global maritime trade.
The final part of the tour takes us to the historic Al Haffa Souq, a bustling traditional market filled with the sweet aroma of burning frankincense. Here, your guide will show you how to identify high-quality frankincense resins, traditional perfumes, and Omani silver. We finish the tour with a stop at the famous green fruit stalls to enjoy a fresh, cooling coconut juice directly from the shell.

All our private tours are tailored specifically for your group. You will have a dedicated local Omani guide who also acts as your driver, providing a comfortable, informative, and private experience. The schedule can be adjusted dynamically based on your interest, walking pace, and weather conditions.
We utilize modern, clean, air-conditioned 4WD vehicles (such as Toyota Land Cruisers or Nissan Patrols) for all mountain and desert safaris. Sedan vehicles are used for standard city heritage tours. Child seats can be provided upon request at no extra charge. Our drivers are trained in off-road sand driving and mountain pass safety.
When visiting religious and local heritage sites (such as the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque or local castles), strict dress codes apply. Both men and women must cover their shoulders and knees. Women must cover their hair and wear full-length sleeves and trousers/skirts when entering the grand mosque. Modest swimwear is acceptable at private resort beaches, but shorts and t-shirts are recommended on public beaches.
Dhofar experiences two distinct seasons. The Khareef monsoon (June to September) features near-constant light drizzle, mist, and cooler temperatures. Hiking paths can be muddy, and waterfalls are active. During this season, sea swimming and boat cruises are completely suspended due to rough waves. The dry winter season (October to May) offers warm sunshine, blue skies, and calm seas, which are perfect for snorkeling, diving, and desert camping.
We recommend booking at least 3 months in advance for the peak Khareef season (July and August) due to exceptionally high demand. To secure your reservation, a deposit may be requested. Cancellations made up to 48 hours before the tour departure are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made within 48 hours or no-shows are subject to a 100% cancellation fee.
Our prices are calculated per vehicle/group (up to 4 travelers). This offers excellent value for families and couples, as you get a private guide and vehicle for a flat rate.
