Journey across the Dhofar mountains into the world's largest sand desert. Discover the archaeology of Ubar and bash giant dunes in a 4x4.
Venture beyond the green hills of Salalah and cross the dry peaks of the Dhofar mountains into the silent majesty of the Rub Al Khali (the Empty Quarter)—the largest contiguous sand desert on Earth. This private 4x4 safari is designed for adventure seekers and history lovers who wish to experience the raw wilderness of the Arabian desert and walk through the ruins of lost civilizations.
The tour begins with a drive north, stopping first at the UNESCO-protected Wadi Dawkah, a natural park containing thousands of wild frankincense trees where your guide will explain how the precious resin is harvested. We then travel to the desert outpost of Shisr to explore the archaeological ruins of the Lost City of Ubar. Once a wealthy fortress and trading center that managed the legendary Frankincense trail, Ubar collapsed into a limestone sinkhole and was lost to the sands for centuries until space-imaging radar helped locate it in 1992.
The real adventure begins as we enter the high dunes of the Empty Quarter. Our experienced desert driver will take you on a thrilling dune-bashing session across massive sand ridges that reach up to 200 meters. You will have the opportunity to try sandboarding down golden slopes, climb to the peak of a giant dune to watch an unforgettable desert sunset, and enjoy a traditional Bedouin dinner and Arabian coffee at our desert camp under a clear sky filled with stars.

All our private tours are tailored specifically for your group. You will have a dedicated local Omani guide who also acts as your driver, providing a comfortable, informative, and private experience. The schedule can be adjusted dynamically based on your interest, walking pace, and weather conditions.
We utilize modern, clean, air-conditioned 4WD vehicles (such as Toyota Land Cruisers or Nissan Patrols) for all mountain and desert safaris. Sedan vehicles are used for standard city heritage tours. Child seats can be provided upon request at no extra charge. Our drivers are trained in off-road sand driving and mountain pass safety.
When visiting religious and local heritage sites (such as the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque or local castles), strict dress codes apply. Both men and women must cover their shoulders and knees. Women must cover their hair and wear full-length sleeves and trousers/skirts when entering the grand mosque. Modest swimwear is acceptable at private resort beaches, but shorts and t-shirts are recommended on public beaches.
Dhofar experiences two distinct seasons. The Khareef monsoon (June to September) features near-constant light drizzle, mist, and cooler temperatures. Hiking paths can be muddy, and waterfalls are active. During this season, sea swimming and boat cruises are completely suspended due to rough waves. The dry winter season (October to May) offers warm sunshine, blue skies, and calm seas, which are perfect for snorkeling, diving, and desert camping.
We recommend booking at least 3 months in advance for the peak Khareef season (July and August) due to exceptionally high demand. To secure your reservation, a deposit may be requested. Cancellations made up to 48 hours before the tour departure are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made within 48 hours or no-shows are subject to a 100% cancellation fee.
Our prices are calculated per vehicle/group (up to 4 travelers). This offers excellent value for families and couples, as you get a private guide and vehicle for a flat rate.
